We all know that a good degreaser and all-purpose cleaner is hard to come by. I always used the one from Melaleuca Inc. when degreasing my kitchen appliances. And I would use their Solugaurd blend as an all-purpose cleaner and a disinfectant! I loved their products because a vast majority of them are plant-based and not toxic to littles and animals.

However, we all know that money is getting increasingly difficult to come by and Melaleuca isn't the cheapest option. So, just like "necessity is the mother of invention," I knew that if I wanted to continue to save my family money AND keep nasty toxins out of our home I would have to try something else.

I remember looking all over the internet, specifically Pinterest, for inspiration and ideas and recipes to use to make my own cleaning supplies.

Then, I found it! All-purpose cleaners can be made from Castile Soap! And I just happened to have some under my kitchen sink!

Now, before I get ahead of myself. Why would I want to use castile soap? What is it? Why does it work?

All very good questions! Ones that I had to do some research on. Thankfully Dr. Bronners Website made that easy. You can read all about Castile soap here.

Basically, though, castile soap is made of plant-based materials, jojoba oil, olive oil, hemp oil, some with palm oil (which I do not agree with for multiple reasons and will not go into here), walnut oil, avocado, you get the picture.

The castile soap I use is from "wholenaturals." It is one of the few that do NOT use palm oils in it, which is huge to me as palm oils are inflammatory and cancerous! There are lots of studies showing the hazards of Palm oils( and any hydrogenated seed oil), so I like to steer clear.

Castile soap originates from the Mediterranean area and has been used there for generations. It can be used in multiple forms, for multiple things! Like an all-purpose cleaner.

But that's not all! It can also be used for shaving, shampoo, dish soap, laundry detergent, etc! I have even used mine as a de-greaser in my kitchen and it has worked beautifully! Because its like a soap, it cuts through the grime and gets through the grease.

So let's continue now that that has kind of been answered. You will need a couple of supplies and about three ingredients for this recipe.

  1. Castile Soap of your choice

  2. Water

  3. Reusable spray bottle (I don't have these but want them)

  4. Essential oil of choice (I like orange)

Now, hold onto your coffee - cause this recipe doesn't get much easier.

You're going to mix 1/4 cup of the castile soap with a quart (or 4 cups worth) of water.

Mix it up, add a few drops of your essential oil for a fresh smell when you use it.

Put that into your spray bottle and label it so that you know what it is!

Now, all you have to do when you want to use it is shake and spray!

This recipe is from the side of the castile soap bottle, though I tweaked it by adding the essential oil to it.

Now, you can also use this SAME mixture, minus the essential oil, and it should be able to become a non-toxic option for cleaning your windows streak-free! At least according to the bottle! I have not personally tried this yet, but trust me, I will be soon and then I will make another post about it and let you know how it worked!

Till then, God bless!
